Maddy Aucoin is a website copywriter for cool professionals—and her DIY branding absolutely shows it. The Brand Ed process helped her translate her creativity beyond copywriting, and into her own DIY brand and design assets for her copywriting business.
Please note: Maddy had no previous design skills heading into this process…
Before joining Brand Ed, Maddy felt like everything about her brand was disjointed.
She never quite felt like anything went together, and was always unsure about how to make certain elements and ideas work in her marketing graphics.
She considered hiring a brand designer at the time, but decided she would rather own the vision herself so she could keep full control over the outcomes, and make sure it didn’t end up looking like anyone else’s (and in her case, avoiding neutrals at all costs!)
During the process of uncovering the direction she wanted to take her brand, confidence in her DIY branding skills grew.
She was so excited to share her progress with her community as the skills began to click along the way (which she had never felt before!) She landed on a brand concept & theme that she not only loved, but felt so aligned with her values and personality, so she ran with it.
When it came time to choosing that brand concept, some questions came up…
She asked, “I keep coming back to library, but I feel like the typical library vibe isn’t really me.”
My answer for her was…
“Maybe that’s a good sign to put yourspin on it!”
Needless to say, she did.
It’s the coolest take on library I’ve ever seen. And completely unexpected.
Her creative process in Brand Ed led to the bold, energetic, pink-loving librarian vibe—which translated to a variety of elements & textures (not just logos, colors, & fonts, but beyond that). Like library card style offer graphics, where she literally created her own bar code, and fun on-theme names and phrases, like “2025 was one for the books!”
No one, especially other copywriters, has a brand quite like Maddy’s.
Not only has Maddy gotten countless compliments from professional designers (not just myself), she’s felt confident enough to act on her own random graphic design ideas, using her creative direction skills and design principles she learned in Brand Ed.
Including these incredible on-brand holiday cards that she made herself, and sent to her clients at the end of last year! (I got one in my mailbox too, and will probably save it forever!!)
I also cannot get over how perfectly on-brand and styled this desk space was too!
In fact, I was so inspired by Maddy’s DIY branding that I cosplayed it in this reel—dressing up like her brand and visiting a colorful library for the fun of it.
And now she’ll get to continue applying these skills to her own DIY brand, for many years to come—even as her business continues to grow and evolve!
“Brand Ed was the most approachable DIY course! I felt so supportive in creating a brand unique to me, and it was so incredible watching the vision I had in my head come to life! I felt so capable of creating for my brand, something I’ve never felt before.” – Maddy Aucoin, Website Copywriter
